Why I built this

When the ceasefire was announced, I caught myself wondering: is the Strait of Hormuz actually open right now?

It’s one thing to read headlines — but how do you independently verify what’s happening in such a critical global chokepoint?

It occurred to me that AIS ship-tracking data could offer a real, ground-level signal of activity. Surprisingly, I couldn’t find a source that presented this information in a simple, reliable way.

So I built one.

It’s a lightweight tool to track vessel movement and get a clearer picture of what’s happening in near real time. Mostly, I built it for myself — but if you’re curious about global trade flows, geopolitics, or just enjoy turning questions into data, you might find it useful too.

Feedback welcome.
